Every other month in New Paltz, New York, volunteers gather at one of the hundreds of “repair cafes” around the world to fix things – for free. In this Sunday Closer, NBC’s Harry Smith shares the fun and joy people feel having their valuables restored.
The Hastings Repair Cafe, Dobbs Ferry Repair Cafe, Irvington Repair Cafe and the new TarryHollow Repair Cafe are part of an intervillage community effort known as the Rivertowns Repair Cafe organized by volunteers from Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow with the support of the Hastings Conservation Commission, Sustainable Dobbs, the Irvington Green Policy Task Force, Tarrytown Environmental Advisory Council and the Sleepy Hollow Environmental Advisory Committee.
