TEAC Celebrates Earth Day

April 22, Earth Day, is an annual event celebrated in more than 192 countries to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.

The Tarrytown Environmental Advisory Committee (TEAC) will be joining Mrs. Greens on April 12 and Tarrytown Third Friday on April 18 to share ideas with our neighbors about Earth Day activities. TEAC will be manning tables with displays and information about local environmental concerns. TEAC will be taking a survey to learn more about the environmental concerns and knowledge of our community and will also be promoting a Turn off your Cellphone Hour event for Earth Day and a RiverKeeper Sweep event coming May 10.

TEAC was founded in 1974 to advise the Board of Trustees and other local boards, commissions, agencies and departments on matters affecting the preservation, development and use of the natural and built environment in the Village of Tarrytown. The council was established under enabling legislation of the State of New York, Article 12-f of the General Municipal Law. The council can have up to nine voting members. In addition, other concerned residents can serve in the non-voting role of associate member.
